Weather & Flight Planning Links

Are you a DUAT or DUATS user—or both? Many pilots are confused by these two weather services—yes, two. One letter makes a difference.

DUAT is an acronym for the FAA's Direct User Access Terminal; two different companies provide the weather services, hence the similarity in the names. But DUAT is provided by the Data Transformation Corporation (DTC), and DUATS is a division of the Computer Science Corporation (CSC). Both are funded by the FAA, and both offer weather and flight planning services and can serve as your weather briefing. Because two different companies provide service, you will need an access code and password for each site. When you sign up for your access code and password, note whether DTC or CSC appears on the Web page. Then use that as a guide for which information you need to supply the next time you sign on to use their weather services.
